View Article  EPQ Registration

Now is the time for AS/Btec students to register to undertake the Extended Project Qualification. The idea is that you start after the May exams, reach the mid-project review stage for the 8th July, and fully complete the project for the 19th September 2011. If you do not meet this September deadline you will fail the EPQ (there can be no extensions of time).

Part C of the EPQ Log needs to be submitted to Dr Peter Jepson for the 27th June 2011. The EPQ is worth up to 70 UCAS points. Students who register in May will be given an invitation to the 'EPQ Extravaganza' to be held on the 22nd June 2011. See more details and download EPQ Log etc.

When you are choosing your EPQ title, examiners have advised that you should choose a title that will enable you to go beyond merely describing the topic area and include some analysis and evaluation. You will get a better grade if your finished project displays analysis and evaluation. Discuss this matter with your EPQ Supervisor.

I am impressed by a range of quality resources called 'Issues' from a small publishing company called 'Independence'. Please follow this link for a list of titles (cost of £7.45 each). The subject areas range from: Abortion to Sport. These books could help a student doing an Extended Project.

We carry a small stock of 'Issues Books' in TRA-15 (bookshelf), but books cannot be taken from the classroom. There is a fuller supply of 'Issues Books' in the Library. There is also an 'Issues Online' facility within the Library - see the Librarian for a password.

View Article  Important EPQ advice and deadline ...

The EPQ Deadline is Monday the 20th September 2010. Students MUST
complete their Extended Project by that date, giving your EPQ Supervisor time  to assess/grade, and have moderated, your Extended Project and EPQ Log. If you (or your Supervisor) fail to submit your completed project to me by that noon deadline, you will fail the EPQ. There are NO extensions of time. The deadline for entries to AQA for the EPQ is the 4th October 2010 (project submission 5th November 2010 - check these dates).

The EPQ Log is extremely important when it comes to the assessment of your extended project.
The more depth and analysis within your EPQ Log the better. In particular, you need to deal with the 'reflection page' by explaining the aims and objectives of your project and then evaluating how things worked out. The exam board have also asked that EPQ Supervisors remind students of the importance of proof reading, and spell-checking, their project and log.
