Some applause from some of our current/past students ...

Dear Dr Jepson,

After four long years at University I have scrambled my way through and achieved my LL.B.
Many of the techniques that you taught me when I was a student at Strodes are the very skills that I used through out the whole of my degree. Please read this to your new students many of whom in the AS year might believe that your methods are a bit ex-centric and unnecessary! To all who are hearing this message I once a spotty 16 year old sitting in-front of that very same man and thought exactly the same. However it was only when I arrived at university that I begun to appreciate the methods and priceless techniques that I was taught.

Dr Jepson. This would probably be the right time to thank-you for all that you have done. Firstly, thank-you for your continued support, advice and guidance throughout the entire two years of my time at Strodes College, but mainly for the A2 learning period. It was during this time that you helped me see that Law was more than just a career, but a passion which I know will last for a very long time. Thank-you for the continued opportunities given to me by you such as the debate at the Old Bailey, the Shabina Begum case debate and my personal favourite, the Mooting competition! They have gone a long way into developing my legal skills, which I hope will continue to develop further. Thank-you for the best lesson’s I have ever had the pleasure to sit through at Strodes and lastly thank-you believing that I was capable within the subject of law.

I will truly miss you’re lessons. I will certainly not have another class like it, or another great teacher like you! Sarina Worley

Hi Dr Jepson. How are you? I hope life at Strode`s is treating you well.

I just thought you would be pleased to know that I was awarded a First Class Honours in my Law Degree from Kent University. I am doing the LPC next September which I am looking forward to and then starting my training contract at a city law firm soon after.

Thank you once again for your excellent teaching at Strode's, it honestly did prepare me for university.  Were it not for me thoroughly enjoying studying law at Strode's, I may not have embarked upon a career in law, thus I have much to thank you for. All the best for the future, and if you ever need someone to attempt to inspire your students feel free to ask! Taymour Keen

Dear Dr. Peter Jepson,

I am a past student of yours graduating in 2006. I'm currently in the second year of a LLB law degree at London South Bank University studying alongside a Mr John Godfrey. I wanted to just send a quick email to ask for your permission to use some of your materials on your website to help me with my course, it would be much apprieciated if could.

I hope all is well at Strodes College and I would like to thank you for helping me to decide to take on a Law Degree as its been the best choice I think I've ever made (other than going to Strodes College obviously). Best wishes for the Future.

King regards, John Tranter (Jan 2009).

Hello Dr Jepson,

It has been a while and I have been meaning to sit down and write this e-mail to you, just to inform you and again thank you for the support and faith you put in me. I have successfully completed my first year at university reading law, and I did so in style, I achieved a high 2:1 close to edging a 1st, however this can only be promising as I did not put my full potential as was socializing and adapting to university, however if it were not for you teaching that would not have been the outcome, your teaching methods and delivery is world-class and would loved if you had taught me this degree, your methods of teaching have inevitably helped me truly, I taught fellow students the read and precis methods lol, and they loved them! my highest marks came from criminal law unsurprisingly due to yourself! I cannot thank you enough and words cannot explain that it were your law classes which made me fall deeply in love with this subject ...

Ali Hassan (August 2008).

Dr Jepson,

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help and support over the last two years. Your enthusiasm and kindness has made law an extremely enjoyable subject and I'm looking forward to studying it at uni. I will miss you but will keep in touch, I am sure that the read and precis will come in handy at uni! Wishing you all the best in your future.

I would like to thank you for your tuition in Law and congratulate you on the fine job you are doing as Head of Laws. Once again, thank you, and best of luck for the future.

Sincerely,
Sam Ewuosho (Laws student and President of the Student Council 2007/8)

Just wanted to say thanks for your help I got a 100% in the Machinery of Justice exam; obviously pleased about that.

(Phil Hunt March 2008).

Hi Dr Jepson it's Josh from (Criminal Law) last year.

Just mailing to express a massive thank you for all of your support throughout my Criminal Law A2 year. The work load is insane here at Cambridge but I began with an advantage due to my familiarisation with read-and-precis.

Joshua Baker (Oct 2007).

...................................................................

I am really enjoying my A2 Criminal Law and find it really interesting. The class i'm in is fantastic and I feel the teaching really helps to engrave the information and cases into my mind.

Charlotte Brady (ILP - Oct 2007).

I would just like to thank you and all the staff in the laws department for a great two years. If it wasn't for your good teaching I would not have known what I know now. At the end of the first year I thought I wouldn't achieve the grades that I did this Summer, particularly the Criminal Law paper 2.

When I first started A2 Law I had an idea as to why you gave us essays regularly, why your deadlines where strict and why you made us complete out case notes and read and précis. Now I'm at St Mary's University it's so much more clear as to why you made us work so hard. I'm so pleased you taught me to argue both sides and not just agree, because I now leave students in my Business Law Lectures and Seminars speechless, and I achieved a 2:1 in my first Business Law report.

Thank You.
From Tarah Al-Jibouri (Nov 2007)

Hello Dr Jepson,

Its Iysha Stanley, one of your A-level law students, from two years ago.
I am just emailing you to inform you about my progress and to thank you and Mrs. Lindley for your help in my A level Law course.
I am currently studying an LLB Law degree at Westminster University and was successful in gaining first class grades last year (in my first year). I am also the 2nd year law student representative, regularly giving presentations and conducting meetings with faculty and students.
I also am currently applying for vacation placements and training contracts at magic circle solicitor firms in London (Allen and Overy is my favorite) and i am so excited about the future.

Hopefully you will read this email out to your current students, as I would like to advise them to enjoy their A-level law experience and attend absolutely every session they can. I made the mistake of not attending all of my classes in my second year, which resulted in me going down from an A grade student, to receiving an overall B grade. I was gutted and wished i could go back and attend the classes I missed. With this in mind, don't make the same mistake, be sensible and attend the classes.

When looking back, the mooting competition I took part in at college was one of the best things i have ever done. It was hard work and time consuming, with all the research, however it put me in such good stead for University and allowed me to obtain the 2nd highest grade in the Mooting module, I took part in, last year.

Also the set up of the college Law module was excellent. The way it was organised and the work required (the precis and essays) reflects exactly what is required to do well at University. The same system is followed at Westminster and because of this I felt like I had a good advantage over the other students on my course.
Thank you for everything. The A-level Law course has allowed me to aspire to many great things and still assists me now.

Any way I have to go because I have reading to do.
Best wishes,

Iysha Stanley.

I am writing to you to thank you for all the support shown to me during my time at Strodes College, if it were not for your input i would have been excluded from Strodes by putting your faith in me i was able to achieve a A - Citizenship and a D - in Law, in which i know i could of done better in law with my ability but due to illness in the year kept hindering my achievement, all in all i am currently in Aberystwyth reading law as a degree and still keep in contact with many students who are all accentuating the same notion that you prepared us very well for our degrees ( mainly from Joshua Baker - whom is at Cambridge) to be honest i am still using my notes which i did for you, and i am using the advantage of read and precis in which students are learning now when you taught us a while back. I will pop into Strodes to say hello and drink some tea with you soon sir, oh yes before i forget i am also the only first year student who got into the mooting team! again praise credit where credit is due thanks again.

Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for everything at college and forcing me to read and precis because its already become useful only 2 weeks in.

Thanks

..........................................................

Just a quick email to say thank you for the opportunity to spend three great years in your department and for always believing in me even when I didn't believe in myself.

It was tough being taught by you at times, but we also had some laughs, given the chance however I wouldn't have changed it for the world because it was you and other teachers in the department of laws that helped me realise what is was that I wanted to do with my life, and for that I am forever thankful.

Take care of yourself and I hope the department and the college as a whole goes from strength to strength.

Hannah Hughes (July 2007)

Dr Jepson: Thanks for all your support over the past year, you helped me to achieve the best result. I never thought I would get an A!

Nina Craig (Sept 2007)

..........................................................

Its Stephanie Adams & Hannah Coleshill who you used to teach but you will probably remember us better from the moot where we were beaten by Lisa and Katrina. How are you? We are currently in our 2nd year at Sussex and both got 2:1's in our first year. After being inspired by the moot we entered the university's negotiation competition in the 1st year and reached the semi finals. This year we thought we would enter the client interviewing competition and we won and the final wasn't as intimidating as the moot with all those cameras! Having come second in a Regional Competition, we are now representing the University in the National Competition.

Hope you are both well, thanks for all the encouragement,
Stephanie & Hannah

Hey Dr Jepson

Its Cherie Faherty here (last year student), just thought I would send you a quick email telling you that I got a place at uni (London Met University) part time to do my LLB (hons) Degree. And would like to thank you for your teaching method of A - Level Law as I feel it is being a great help in helping me settle in to uni much quicker and I feel really confident going into lectures and its all thanx to you and Mrs Lindley, so I thank you both for helping me get prepared for uni and giving me the confidence to study at uni.

Really though thank you, if I hadn't your teaching behind me I think I would of had a heart attack by now lol,

Dear Dr Jepson and Mrs Lindley...

Just a letter of thanks for having me in your department for these past 2 years.. I gained a great deal of knowledge, experience, skills and well, the results speak for themselves...it was fun, hard work, tiring, humorous, but most of all , encouraging; it made me realise even more that you can be who you want to be and achieve in whatever you set your mind to do, with hard work, and that colour, nationality, backgound or any other thing cannot stop you.

God bless you

Dear Dr. Jepson

Just to let you know that both my law exams went smoothly. Fingers crossed!

Also, I just want to say that all your help has made a big difference. Thank you so much for all your time.

Peter,

Thank you for the analysis of the Department's results.

Congratulations to you and your colleagues on another excellent set of results, particularly in A2 Law, Citizenship and Politics. I found the last of these particularly encouraging. The honesty and commitment to further continuous improvement evident within the analysis is also most impressive.

Dr Frank Botham (Principal) 21st August 2006.

From Lisa Incledon,

Thank you very much for the honorarium payment it was very generous and unexpected, and please could you pass on my thanks.
I also wanted to thank you for allowing me to come in and help with the mooting competition and year 10 days; I’ve really enjoyed doing so and found it an interesting and useful experience.
Thank you again
Lisa Incledon (July 2006)

Hello,

I just wanted to email you to say thankyou for all your help this year, also for giving me the confidence to do it. I passed with flying colours and am very pleased! I appreciate the fact that you pushed us all hard and am greatful for the belief you had in me.

Thanks again

I wanted to say thank you for all your help and support over the last two years, especially with regards to university. The UCAS reference you wrote was undoubtedly one of the reasons that Surrey offered me a place.

I'm looking forward to beginning my Law Degree and no doubt you'll hear from me as I progress through the course.

Thank you again,

Peter,

I was very pleased to be invited and greatly enjoyed the moot. I thought that the intellectual quality of the argument was at least the equal of earlier years and truly impressive. I have also noted your observations about how the process has inspired and motivated students - and not just the most able. I congratulate you and your colleagues (and Lisa!) on this achievement. Long may it continue!

With best wishes,

Frank Botham (Principal) July 2006.

Dr Jepson,

Its been really good to help me calm down and be able to focus on the exams

Thank you

... As a fellow practitioner, I am very impressed by the ways in which you manage to foster independent learning, get away from 'spoon-feeding' and encourage a range of law-related activities. You provide an excellent 'infrastructure' for learning the law by combining traditional methods with the opportunities for innovation provided by new technology.
