"Good referencing will improve your grade ..."
While undertaking an Extended Project (or any piece of work) it is extremely important that you pay attention to referencing. Indeed, poor referencing, or a lack of referencing, can result in you being accused of plagiarism. Which can have major consequences for your grade and future (for example at University you can be sent down for a year for plagiarism).
Good referencing can easily be achieved by simply providing a FOOTNOTE - whenever you include a comment, idea, or quote, from a source (this provides details of where the reader can find the source). If, in doing your research, you read an article/web page - include the source details (html link etc) in your bibliography. This emphasizes the academic strength of your project.
If you are unsure about how to include a reference please watch the 'Planning and Referencing Extended Project' podcast. You can also ask your 'EPQ Supervisor', or myself, for details on how to provide footnotes and a bibliography.
Please note that 'EPQ Supervisor's' have been advised that they should FAIL an extended project if they see evidence of plagiarism. In comparison, EPQ Supervisors will undoubtedly remind you that good referencing will improve your grade, since you will be showing evidence of authoritative research.
Tip: Do the referencing (footnotes/bibliography) as you go along. It is often very difficult (if not impossible) to add references at the end of a project.
Further tip: Avoid using Wikipedia - it lacks academic respect.
