Please note that AS/A2 Citizenship Students will be working on a political Airtrack Campaign at the start of term. The concern is that BAA proposals for this Airtrack development with projections of the Egham railway level crossings being closed for between 30 and 39 minutes per hour while trains go through. Such proposals will have a devastating impact on traffc leading to gridlock in the area. There is currently no commitment to a bridge or tunnel and this is the basis of the campaign.

There is an expectation that all four AS/A2 Citizenship classes will be actively campaigning, for up to two weeks, at the start of term. Second Year students will be dealing with Correspondence to MP's, Department of Transport, Filming and Photography. The First Year classes will be dealing with Petitions, Leafleting, Posters, Campaigning at the station, in Egham Town Centre etc. Organising a Public Meeting for students etc.  Organising a Letter Writing Competition etc. Twitter campaigning etc.

..............................

BAA and Network Rail have made an application under the Transport and Works Act, (TWA)  to build a new rail line from Staines to Heathrow, and totally mess up Egham's Level Crossings.

The Secretary of State for Transport,  Lord Adonis, has decided to have a Public Inquiry, and will appoint an Inspector to consider the application.

As of now, because  Airtrack is not planning to build anything in Egham, the Inspector does not need to consider what will happen in Egham if this scheme goes ahead.

We must make sure that our tunnel under the level crossing is included in the plan.

Otherwise a good scheme, to improve public transport to Heathrow, will end up ruining Egham people's lives.

We need,  by  18 September, to send in as many "objections"  as we can, demanding that our tunnel (or bridge) is included in the Inspector's terms of reference. See www.egham-airtrack.co.uk

Mr Bunce will be allocating different responsibilities to each class so that all Citizens can become active Citizens. Please note that all students should keep a diary/log of their activities since it could be used for examination purposes.
