View Article  DNA database 'Breach of Human Rights'.
Many AS Law students will recall the argument about the way that the government used a statutory instrument to bring in laws that provide powers for the police to collect DNA. Under present laws, the DNA profiles of everyone arrested for a recordable offence in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, are kept on the database regardless of whether they are charged or convicted. This applying whether the accused is  adult or child/teenager.

Seventeen judges in The European Court of Human Rights have unanimously ruled that such government action is a breach of human rights. This decision will now force the government to review its law. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7764069.stm   more »
